    Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science George Nehmetallah was promoted to Senior Member of the Optical Society of America (OSA)

     

    BE team wins 3rd place in Parker Hannifin Stretch Your Mind Engineering Challenge

    A team of Biomedical Engineering juniors, let by Assistant Professor Sahana Kukke, won 3rd place and a check for $2500 for their "Hands Up" entry in the Parker Hannifin Stretch Your Mind Engineering Challenge. Students Rachel Vierra, Sherman Abrams, Benjamin Pesante, Christopher Rahimi, and Jamil Marzouka participated in the competition as part of Dr. Kukke's course BE 418 - Sensor Applications in Neurorehabilitaton.

     

    ME student featured in ScienceNews Magazine

    T.J. Campbell '16 was quoted in a ScienceNews article describing a plan for measuring the thickness of the icy crust of Jupiter's moon Europa. The concept development was a senior design project with fellow student John Brewer '16, advised by Civil Engineering Assistant Professor Masataka Okutsu. T.J. presented the work at the May 2016 Acoustical Society of America conference in Salt Lake City, and Wochit news has posted a youtube news clip about the work.

     

    George Nehmetallah blogs for Optical Society meeting on precision measurements in air quality

    Electrical Engineering Assistant Professor George Nehmetallah was nominated to blog about the recent two-day OSA meeting focused on precision measurements of air quality, pollution, and greenhouse gases.

    Graduate Students Win 1st and 2nd Places in Oral Presentations

    Electrical Engineering and Computer Science graduate student, Vy Bui, and Civil Engineering graduate student, Xiaomeng Liang, under direction of Associate Professors Lin-Ching Chang and Arash Massoudieh, were awarded first and second prizes, respectively, for the student oral presentation competition at the 2016 IEEE Computational Intelligence Socity Winter School of Big Data in Computational Intelligence: From Principles to Complex Applications.

     

    Xiaolong Luo Honored with Prestigious NSF Career Award

    Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor Xiaolong Luo received a prestigious NSF Career Award entitled "CAREER: Highly stable lipid bilayers on freestanding cytoskeleton-like membrane" for the period June 1, 2016 through May 31, 2021, with a total amount of $504,671. Read more >>

     

    John Judge Elected Fellow of ASME

    Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor John Judge has been elected as a Fellow of AMSE.

     

    Intelligence Director Honored with Engineering Award

    The School of Engineering honored Letitia Long with the school’s 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award. Long, who earned her masters of science in mechanical engineering in 1988, spent her career in senior roles in the intelligence community as Deputy Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Deputy Under-secretary of Defense for Intelligence, and Director for Intelligence Community Affairs at the CIA.     National Academy of Engineering Recognizes School of Engineering as a Grand Challenge Scholars Program

    Gunnar Lucko and Lu Sun Receive Research Awards

    Gunnar Lucko, associate professor of civil engineering, has received an NSF grant entitled "Drawing on Concepts in Finance for Construction Performance Measurement" in the amount of $175,000 for the period September 15, 2015 through August 31, 2017. Lu Sun, ordinary professor of civil engineering, has recieved a grant entitled "Traffic Information Collection, Analysis and Dissemination for Transportation Systems Management Operations" from the American Association of Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) in the amount of $75,000 for the period July 15, 2015 through May 15, 2016.

     

    George Nehmetallah Publishes Book

    George Nehmetallah, assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science, has published a book entitled Analog and Digital Holography with MATLAB. The book is published by SPIE and available here.

    Civil Engineering Ordinary Professor Poul Lade Receives Best Paper Award

    May 19, 2015 ... Poul Lade, ordinary professor of civil engineering, has been recognized for the Geotechnical Research Prize from Geotechnical Research (Journal Prize for best paper published in the journal) for his paper, "The Role of Cementation in the Behaviour of Cemented Soils."
