Research interests:

 

The application of system engineering in program management, the use of modeling or simulation in system design, and best practices for transition of advanced technology to operational applications.

 

Professional Experience:

 

Mr. Zittel has been a lecturer in the Catholic University of America Engineering Management Program since January, 2005. He instructs in the field of systems engineering management.

 

Mr. Zittel is a Professor of Systems Engineering with the US Department of Defense Acquisition University, Fort Belvoir, VA. His organization is a component of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and trains the Acquisition Workforce of 130,000 military and civilian employees of the Department of Defense. He currently teaches the Intermediate and Advanced Systems Engineering Courses, the Intermediate and Advanced Technology Transition Courses, as well as modeling and simulation and technology transition modules in the executive acquisition review courses. He retired as an Army Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of active service in 1992. During his career, he was a global and tactical communications manager, nuclear research engineer and project development manager. He has 24 years experience as a chief engineer and project manager in US and NATO development programs and consulted to numerous American programs as well as the British, Australian, Bulgarian, Canadian and Romanian ministries of defense.

 

Recent Publications:

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard 632-1998, “Processes for Engineering A System” (co-author) and a number of symposium papers on systems engineering and modeling & simulation.
