We pride ourselves on being a small, private, Catholic engineering school with a personal touch, thanks to our dedication to teaching, our small class sizes, small student-to-teacher ratio, and close interaction between faculty and students. All full time faculty members hold doctoral degrees and are prolific in funded research and publications.

The School of Engineering building features several state-of-the-art computer laboratories and five smart technology classrooms to support innovative teaching. CUA has been ranked among the most "wired" university campuses by The Princeton Review and Forbes Magazine.

Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineers bridge the gap between medicine and engineering. The program at CUA, accredited since 1991, prepares students for this evolving field by teaching them to apply core engineering principles to invent and advance technologies necessary for diagnosing medical conditions, assisting with rehabilitation and improving the lives of people with disabilities and/or chronic illness.

Civil Engineering

As a discipline, civil engineering is dedicated to building a sustainable future through the development of civil infrastructure and the betterment of the global environment. At CUA, we have a faculty dedicated to excellence in undergraduate teaching and are at the forefront of civil engineering research. Because of our location in the Nation's capital, our faculty includes a group of world-class professional experts in engineering, law, and business who bring practice into the classroom.

Electrical Engineering & Computer Science

Electrical engineering is a driving force in the improvement of how people interact in today’s world. Whether we consider the fundamentals behind today’s cable, wireless, and fiber-optic communications systems, the ever-increasing speed of computers, the intelligence embedded into our home appliances and automobiles, or emerging alternative energy sources, electrical engineering plays a dominant role.

Computers are ubiquitous today, yet their inner workings and future evolution remain shrouded in mystery for many people. Computer science studies the fundamentals of hardware and software components, advanced system design and human interface issues, and pursues their applications in science, engineering and technology in our daily lives.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers serve humanity! They contribute immensely throughout the world to protect the environment, increase the quality of life, and contribute to overall economic development. Broadly speaking, mechanical engineers deal with things that move and use energy (i.e., almost everything!). In fact, not a day that goes by that you don’t use hundreds of things that mechanical engineers have brought to life. CUA offers a well-balanced program with up-to-date design, laboratory, and computer experiences. Your CUA experience will open you to a world of possibilities from traditional careers in engineering to careers in law, business or medicine.

Materials Science & Engineering

Few fields of science or engineering are not concerned in some way with materials. It has been estimated that the work of one in three engineers is directly related to materials, while over half of all engineers have at least an indirect concern for the properties of materials. Specifically designed to meet the needs of working professionals in the nation's capital, our program's goal is to produce well-rounded materials scientists and engineers who possess skills to assume leadership roles in industry, academia, and government.

Engineering Management

The Engineering Management Program at Catholic University has a proud twenty-five year history of successfully educating military, government, and industry professionals in the art and science of managing technical organizations and their processes. We provide the necessary additional step that allows engineers and scientists to understand how their environment works and how things are managed and controlled within that environment. Our intent is to make the engineer and scientist more effective in the pursuit of professional achievement.
