Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Tran's main research and academic interests include the following:

Pulmonary Mechanics: non-invasive measurement of stresses and strains developed on the lung surface using imaging techniques (MRI and CT) and utilization of these measurements to study the development of lung disease. Additional lings: Electric Lung Anatomy and Pediatric Airway Disease.

Cardiac Mechanics: evaluation of cardiac augmentation by synchronous gating of the respiratory and cardiac cyles using Echo-planar Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI). Learn more about the heart.

Home Care Technologies (HCT): development of biomedical technologies with particular applications to home care and rehabilitation. Of particular interest are cardiac and pulmonary home care rehabilitiation strategies.

Bio-Instrumentation: development, testing, and evaluation of biomedical instrumentation for the early detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of disease.

Volume Controller: development of volume control equipment to dynamically monitor and control lung volume. Equipment has been used for research to study pulmonary, as well as cardiac, anatomy and function.

Other projects with which he is involved are:

Physiologic Monitoring System: development of data acquisition system to monitor and record physiologic signals involved during animal research. Equipment development include building electronic amplifiers, data acquisition systems (recording and display), and integration of hardware and software into one complete monitoring unit.

Lung Sounds Monitor: development of digital lung sounds device to record and analyze pulmonary breath sounds based upon frequency analysis techniques.
