BE 497 Senior Design
Initial Report and Presentation Guidelines
Objective: To deliver a preliminary report outlining the design project both in
writing and verbally
Content: Your written report should discuss the following:
- The need (e.g. who is the consumer) and specified performance requirements,
- Existing solutions (commercially available?),
- Patent and/or literature searches,
- Design alternatives considered,
- Outline of any preliminary analyses performed,
- Planned design approach (including schedule),
- Organization of team responsibilities.
Format: The written report should be neatly typed, double-spaced.
Equations, if inserted, should be done using word-processing software. Any
graphics should be machine-generated or scanned in hand drawings if necessary.
Each group will be allowed up to 20 minutes for the oral presentation of the report
and 10 minutes for questions. Visual aids (e.g. Powerpoint) are encouraged.
Students should approach this presentation as if they
were making a presentation to a future employer (Dress, demeanor, etc.). The
presenter is responsible for their time management, and will lose points if they
do not cover all the points in the allowed time. See
Presentation Tips for some Do's and Don'ts of
presenting.
Grading: The written and oral reports will be graded for the team.
Evaluations will be done by the instructor and outside advisors.
